BPA FREE Lunch Trays!

Box Tops Contest a Huge Success!

Earlier this year, families cut, tore and clipped over 15,000 Box Tops from General Mills brand products. This relatively simple act raised the PTSA $1,500! Once everything was counted up, we found that Mrs. Buder’s class won the contest submitting 1,930 Box Tops and Mrs. DeJesus’s class came in second place with 1,570 Box Tops. These classrooms won a pizza party for 1st place and a cupcake party for 2nd place. Thank you to our generous PTSA for bringing author Kirby Larson to talk to our students. She was a fantastic inspiration for our blossoming readers and writers! Pacific Science Center’s Super Cool Science Show was a hit, as were the salmon dissection and salmon prints provided by Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery. Digital Citizenship and Online Safety

In September and in January students have been learning how to stay safe online during their library time. Digital safety and citizenship are important topics and can be tricky to navigate. Parents can find links to many outstanding resources from Common Sense Media on the Newcastle Elementary Library Connect site. This month, the PTSA welcomed our fantastic Kindergarten teaching staff to present at our General Membership meeting. Kristin Cakarnis, Cathy Andrews, and Michelle Robinson reported on the progress our Kindergarten students are making this year, as well as provided an update on how iPads are being used in one Kindergarten classroom. Cathy Andrews expressed the teachers’ appreciation for the new book room and how it supports the Making Meaning Curriculum. Donate Food to Vote for a Crazy Hair Day or a Pajama Day!

Remembering Karen Pike - "Pike College Fund" at HomeStreet

A longtime Newcastle community and Chamber Member, Karen Pike, suddenly passed away in early October 2012. Karen was a very active member of the Chamber and was engaged at every event with her Arbonne products. We will greatly miss Karen's sweet smile and warm personality. PTA will convene its statewide Legislative Assembly at the SeaTac Marriott on October 19-20. Entertainment Book Fundraiser Update

We are thrilled to announce that the students passed our sales goal, selling OVER $30,000 in Entertainment Books!!!  Mrs. Robinson’s class is the lucky winner of the pizza party, having 80% of her students sell at least 1 book.  The cupcake party will go to both Mrs. Canadey and Mrs. Reimer’s classes, which both had 71% of their students sell at least 1 book.  A whopping 47 students sold 10 books or more and won the lunchtime limo ride to McDonalds!  Because there were so many winners, limo rides will occur over the next few weeks.  Finally, grade level winners ... read full article

Comfort Kits

The Newcastle PTSA Emergency Preparedness Committee has sent home a Comfort Kit with your child.  This kit consists of an uplifting message and a picture of your family on an index card within a plastic Ziploc baggie.  These kits provide some measure of comfort to your child in the event of an emergency.  Please include your child’s name on the baggie.   Each kit will be returned to you at the end of the school year. Entertainment Coupon Books Coming Home September 19th!

Treat yourself and friends to great deals while supporting Newcastle Elementary!   On Wednesday, September 19th students will take home Entertainment Books coupon books as we kick off the PTSA’s fall fundraising campaign. Entertainment books contain literally hundreds of coupons for local retailers, such as QFC, Sports Authority, Bartell Drugs, Cold Stone Creamery and more. Calling all future engineers and rocket scientists!

The Fall Session for Lego STEM Class After School Enrichment begins on September 26th and registration is open now.    Class size is limited and students will be accepted on a first come basis. Students explore science, technology, engineering and math through creation of Lego models of the world around them.  Skills include math, science, physics, problem solving, critical thinking, fine motor skills, social cooperation and imaginative play.  Sessions are every Wednesday for 8 weeks, from 1:35 -2:35 PM for students K-2nd grade.  Classes are held on the stage in the Commons.  Cost is $100 for the 8 week session. Free Electronics Recycling Event! When: Saturday, September 8th 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Where: Renton Technical College MAIN parking lot, 3000 NE 4th, Renton Liberty High School PTSA is holding an E-Cycle event with 1 Green Planet. Accepted items include working and broken electronics, appliances, bicycles, motorcycles, cars, trucks, batteries, fitness equipment, medical equipment, lawnmowers and barbecues.
