Macaroni Kid Snoqualmie Valley-Issaquah, Bridget Franklin from The Cascade Team, The Flat Iron Grill, Therapeutic Health of North Bend and Issaquah Trophy & Awards would like to congratulate Laura Berry for being named Teacher of the Month for October 2012.

Here is the nomination:

Laura made it her personal responsibility to help a school family in need last year – she helped get them food & clothing, she also drove the parent to get help from a local organization that teaches English and helps with legal affairs and job
training. She took personal responsibility for trying to help 4 people make a better life for themselves against difficult odds. All the while, she teaches every one of the 550 students in our school, she chairs our gift-a-book drive, and now she's chairing both of our book fairs. What makes her so special are the personal relationships she makes with our kids. When I needed books for my girls, she talked me through their interests and helped select books that were the right fit for them. She had a stack of books for my then 4th grader…I was reaching for them to take them home with me, when she pushed them away from me and told me she'd take care of it. Later that day, she hand-delivered them to my daughter in her class and told her she'd picked them out especially for her and she was looking forward to hearing when she thought when she was done
reading them. My daughter felt like a rock star! Now she is excited to find books with Ms. Berry and she's even more excited about reading. And Laura did the same thing for my younger daughter, now in 2nd grade. She's a very special woman and she truly cares about each and every student and family in our school.

Ms. Berry is a Librarian at Newcastle Elementary in the Issaquah School District.  Please join us in congratulating this amazing teacher!
