Is Your Family Culturally Competent

Are your kids exposed to racially or culturally-charged comments? Parent Wiser hosts Dr. Caprice Hollins for a paradigm-shifting talk to help parents engage in courageous conversations with our children and learn How to be a Culturally Competent Family in 2020. Join us Jan 22 at 7-8:30pm at Liberty High. Participants will increase their understanding of equity vs equality, privilege, and implicit bias to develop a community where everyone benefits through inclusivity and the honoring of differences. For parents of K-12. Register at http://ParentWiser.org/events. Event is free to PTSA members and VOICE Mentors and $10 for others.

Local Dollars Support Local Kids

In 2018, ISD voters approved a 2 year Education & Operations (EP&O) Levy. This levy provided continued support for career and technical programs, mental health counselors, safety and security staff, the district's first dual language program and an expanded high school schedule. With voter approval of the 2020 EP&O Levy, voters can ensure these programs continue benefitting our students for another 2 years. Ballots drop this week. Please remember to vote.

Program Spotlight
Did you know… the Issaquah Schools Foundation supports afterschool homework labs at high schools that gives students access to academic support and open libraries at middle schools that provide a supervised location to student or use a computer after school? Last year, students received one-to-one help from teachers almost 14,000 times during these opportunities.

“This has been invaluable to struggling students. One of my students does not have access to our software at home, so he is able to access the program from school providing him an equitable opportunity for success… It is an awesome way to reach out to students who need a little more help with the content without making them feel called out. I have found a higher success rate since beginning this tutoring funded by the Foundation.”
