Save The Dates For Movie Nights
Help Send Newcastle Teachers To The Reading And Writing Project Enter our raffle to win a weekend night for two at the Hyatt Regency Lake Washington and help send a group of Newcastle teachers to The Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University’s Teacher’s College next month. Teachers will attend workshops to help them improve the quality of literacy instruction. More information about the program can be found {here} Raffle information and tickets went home in your child’s folder (or are on their way). Please return raffle tickets and money in the envelope provided to your child’s teacher by Friday, Feb. 14. And if you’re not interested in the night out, you can still help our teachers and students by sending in your donation in the raffle envelope.
Vote "Yes" On the Renewal Levy - Ballots Due Feb. 11! There is only ONE item on your ballot and it will take just seconds to vote YES! And it couldn’t be easier to vote – simply drop your ballot in the ballot drop box outside of Newcastle City Hall by 8pm on Feb. 11 The 2020 EP&O Renewal Levy Continues Support For: Career & Technical Education • Mental Health Counselors in Our Schools • Special Education • Early Childhood Learning • Safety and Security • Highly Capable Programs • Dual Language Program • After School Activities and Athletics This is not a new tax. This renewal levy replaces the previous two-year levy expiring in 2020. With voter approval of this renewal levy, we can ensure these programs continue benefitting our students for another 2 years. Help Needed For Spring Fundraiser Our biennial school fundraiser is fast approaching--ORANGE RULER!We are in need of some wonderful volunteers for our spring fundraiser, which will take place in May. We rely on parent volunteers to reduce the overhead needed to make this fundraiser a huge success. Please take a look at the Sign-Up Genius link - you can help as little or as much as you want - from placing a few phone calls to attending the kids' lunch period to organizing the Fun Run. ParentWiser Event -Tonight, February 10 At Issaquah High Even the most in-tune parents could use some extra tips for keeping up with the fast-changing media landscape and how their kids engage with it. Parent Wiser hosts local technology fixation expert, Jocelyn Skillman, with research and tips from Common Sense Media for Plugged-In Parents: Keeping Kids Safe, Happy & Healthy in the Digital Age, Feb 10th, 7-8:30pm at Issaquah High. Parents will learn how to balance media use as a family, find quality content, set expectations for healthy use, and raise kids to be media savvy and safe. Candid Photos Needed For Yearbook!
We are in need of candid photos of your children for the 2019-2020 Newcastle yearbook. You can submit photos of your kids to our Yearbook Chair, Jessica Anderson, at jessiej0608@gmail.com. All photos should be of Newcastle students on school grounds or at school sponsored events or clubs (such as the Costume Carnival, Chorus, etc). Please be aware that the photos need to be at least 750KB or the resolution will be too low for the yearbook. Deadline for submission is Friday, March 20. The Issaquah Schools Foundation loves to support our teachers! The Foundation began by providing grants to educators in the Issaquah School District, and because of YOUR donations we are able to continue this great work! This February, share the love by expressing our appreciation for the teachers of the Issaquah School District! Donate in honor of a teacher and what they give to us every day. Make your contribution {here} and include your teacher’s name and personal message. We will let them know of the gift you made in their honor. You can view the list of all teachers honored {here}!
Impact Scholarships
The Issaquah Schools Foundation Impact Scholarships are open to juniors and seniors in the Issaquah School District. The scholarships will be awarded to students who submit essays that describe how Issaquah Schools Foundation-funded programs have enriched their education. The scholarships will be awarded in two categories. Written category ($1000) and Presentation category ($1500). Application deadline is February 21, 2020. {Click here for more information}
Help! My Teen is Dating. Real Solutions to Tough Conversations.
The Issaquah Schools Foundation is providing funding for a parent education seminar around dating safety. Gain essential skills and strategies for addressing awkward and yet vitally important discussions with your child. This interactive seminar is changing the way parents and their children are approaching, discussing, and handling decision-making regarding dating, intimacy, parties, and safety. In one hour, parents will discover essential steps for helping their sons and daughters with making safer choices.
