Newcastle Auction is NEXT FRIDAY!
We realize many of you may not know exactly what to expect at our auctions. This is an important event for our school community as it helps raise funds to support various programs and activities for our students. We only have one every two years. At the auction, we will have an exciting selection of items available for bidding, including gift certificates, experiences, and unique items generously donated by our school community and local businesses. You won't want to miss the chance to win some amazing items while supporting our school! We are extending the early bird ticket sale pricing! By purchasing a ticket, you'll not only gain entry to the event but also contribute to the success of our school and students. Our first multi-cultural fair in a few years returned to Newcastle! It was truly an unforgettable event that brought together our diverse school community and celebrated the rich and varied cultures that make us who we are.
The fair was a resounding success, thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many people. Our students & families worked tirelessly to create exhibits and performances that showcased the unique traditions, foods, and customs of their respective cultures. Parents and community members generously shared their time, expertise, and culinary skills to ensure that we had a delicious and varied array of foods to sample and enjoy. The result was a joyful and informative celebration of diversity that brought smiles to the faces of everyone who attended. We discovered new foods and customs, and we came away with a deeper appreciation of the many ways in which we are all connected. We are so proud of our community, who demonstrated both creativity and compassion in their presentations. We are also grateful to our parents, volunteers, and staff members who worked so hard to make this event a reality. A special thank you to our VP of Programs, Bisa Meek and our Multi-Cultural chairs, Chetali Arora, Monika Chahal & Ketki Bagul for their hard work and dedication to make this event the success that it was! Thank you all for your contributions and for helping to make our cultural fair such a memorable and meaningful experience. We look forward to future events that celebrate our diversity and bring us closer together. Check out a brief slideshow of the event HERE.

Despite the two hour delay putting a spin on things, our wonderful 2nd and 3rd grade families showed up for our staff!
Three times a year, the families of Newcastle host a luncheon for teachers and staff to show them how much we appreciate everything they do for our children. This is our 2nd one of the year and the theme was Italian! Thank you to our VP of Volunteers, Janis Yu, for her work in collaborating and setting this up! We appreciate the following families for their donations: Diem Nguyen, Ellen Lubbers, LuAnn Chai, Linda Nguyễn, Danielle Colatosti, Kelsey White, Diane Talvo, Rita Breazile, Katie Green, Rena Han, Anna Jung, Hillary Argyle, Kristin McNamara, Lisa Simpson, Kathy Brandt, Cindy Fang, Ayako Santo, Maki Imakura, Trisha Louie, Silin Tam, Laurie Sian, Janis Yu, Alice Kim, Jennifer Choi, Esther Liu, Gretchen Peterson, Hai-Mien Nguyen, Erin Davidson YEARBOOK PHOTOS NEEDED BY 3/10!! In order to create a yearbook that includes as many Newcastle students as possible, we need your help gathering photos. The photos should fit into the categories below and be at least 750KB in size. Please check the size of the photos before you send them as anything smaller than 750KB will not be included in the yearbook because the resolution is too low. You can submit up to 5 photos per student. Send all photos to Jessica Anderson at jessiej0608@gmail.com. Newcastle Yearbook Categories: First Day of School Golden Acorn Nominations
It’s that time of year when we recognize those in our community who go above and beyond in being of service to our students and school. The Golden Acorn Award is a very prestigious Washington State PTA award that is given out by local PTAs/PTSAs for exemplary and outstanding volunteerism and service to PTA. Honorees that receive this award have volunteer experience at the local PTA level, in the community, and at the school and/or school district level.
Do you know someone you think deserves this amazing recognition? If so, please complete a nomination form HERE by Friday March 17th. Last year's recipients, Marcia O'Donoghue, Mary McGuire Brown, and Ali Bligh are serving as this year's Golden Acorn Committee. You can contact our chair, Marcia, with questions at dietzinaustin@yahoo.com. School & Community News Parent Wiser Events Many of us have confided in others during dark times, and vice versa. But it can feel awkward, if not downright frightening, not knowing what to do when a loved one or a peer shows suicide warning signs. Developed by Forefront, the five simple and effective LEARN® steps empower individuals to help others move in the direction of hope, recovery, and survival. March 7th @ 7pm. Link to register is HERE. What do you know about eating disorders? Experts have indicated that eating disorders in teens have exploded since the pandemic. Myths and misconceptions abound about these complex medical and psychiatric illnesses. Not always originating from body dysmorphia, they are linked with high achievement and are a form of coping mechanism for stress, anxiety, and a loss of control over one’s life. Betsy Malm from the Eating Recovery Center in Bellevue will help you understand causes, how to recognize signs and symptoms, and how parents and counselors can support students who may be struggling. Q&A will include students who can answer questions about their personal experience. March 20th @ 7pm. Link to register is HERE.
