Newcastle Auction is THIS FRIDAY, March 10th!
We realize many of you may not know exactly what to expect at our auctions. This is an important event for our school community as it helps raise funds to support various programs and activities for our students. We only have one every two years. At the auction, we will have an exciting selection of items available for bidding, including gift certificates, experiences, and unique items generously donated by our school community and local businesses. You won't want to miss the chance to win some amazing items while supporting our school! By purchasing a ticket, you'll not only gain entry to the event but also contribute to the success of our school and students. Here’s a little video of past auctions to give you an idea of what to expect. Thank you for your support, and we hope to see you at the auction! Tickets can be purchased here. Questions? Email: 2023newcastleauction@gmail.com Not sure if you are coming to our school auction? Please see this information about an exciting new program for our school that can only be made possible with the help of this auction:
We are excited to announce Newcastle Elementary will be teaming up with Playworks for the 2023-2024 school year! Playworks is the leading national non-profit using play to transform schools. We are proud to partner with Playworks to make recess a fun, inclusive time for every student in our community. A Playworks recess creates a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills.
We will work in partnership with Playworks to launch the TEAM UP program. Our Playworks site coordinator will spend one week out of every month at our school to train, build and sustain a high-functioning recess. Our recess team staff will implement these new strategies to help all students at Newcastle Elementary experience safe and healthy play every day. For more information, please CLICK HERE. We look forward to working together to see this program in action! Again, tickets for the auction are HERE. We are still in need of volunteers for the day of, specifically setting up. We have two time slots available, 9a-12p and 1p-3p. Here is a link to volunteer if you are able. Thank you! PTSA General Membership Meeting and Principal Chat
Please join us this Wednesday, March 8th, at 7p in the Newcastle Elementary library for our PTSA meeting and principal chat!
YEARBOOK PHOTOS STILL NEEDED BY 3/10!! Golden Acorn Nominations
It’s that time of year when we recognize those in our community who go above and beyond in being of service to our students and school. The Golden Acorn Award is a very prestigious Washington State PTA award that is given out by local PTAs/PTSAs for exemplary and outstanding volunteerism and service to PTA. Honorees that receive this award have volunteer experience at the local PTA level, in the community, and at the school and/or school district level.
Do you know someone you think deserves this amazing recognition? If so, please complete a nomination form HERE by Friday March 17th. Last year's recipients, Marcia O'Donoghue, Mary McGuire Brown, and Ali Bligh are serving as this year's Golden Acorn Committee. You can contact our chair, Marcia, with questions at dietzinaustin@yahoo.com. School & Community News Parent Wiser Events Many of us have confided in others during dark times, and vice versa. But it can feel awkward, if not downright frightening, not knowing what to do when a loved one or a peer shows suicide warning signs. Developed by Forefront, the five simple and effective LEARN® steps empower individuals to help others move in the direction of hope, recovery, and survival. March 7th @ 7pm. Link to register is HERE. What do you know about eating disorders? Experts have indicated that eating disorders in teens have exploded since the pandemic. Myths and misconceptions abound about these complex medical and psychiatric illnesses. Not always originating from body dysmorphia, they are linked with high achievement and are a form of coping mechanism for stress, anxiety, and a loss of control over one’s life. Betsy Malm from the Eating Recovery Center in Bellevue will help you understand causes, how to recognize signs and symptoms, and how parents and counselors can support students who may be struggling. Q&A will include students who can answer questions about their personal experience. March 20th @ 7pm. Link to register is HERE.
