Read-A-Thon
We are off to a wonderful start with our Read-A-Thon! Thank you to those that have set up their student’s personal website and shared with family and friends. Remember to log the minutes read each day. Upon registering, you should have received an email with the links to access your page to share, AND your private profile management page. On that page, you can personalize it with a photo of your student and select the “track” tab to log the minutes.
The subject line of the email reads, “Check out your new fundraiser page.” The link once again to register is: https://bit.ly/NewcastleReads. This fundraiser ends this Sunday, March 10th at 9p. Should you have any questions about this, please contact Jenn McAleer at jennmc@aol.com. Keep reading, lions!
Multi-Cultural Fair
Another date change--we apologize as we navigate the building construction. Save the date! We are all crossing our fingers that we will be able to have this wonderful event. We will keep everyone posted as we wait to hear on the condition of the building, but in the meantime, mark your calendars!
Movie Night for 2nd & 3rd Grades
Movie Night is this Friday, March 8th, at 6p in the Commons! Second and third graders will vote in their classes for a movie of their choice - Trolls: Band Together, Wish, or Migration. This is a FREE EVENT!
Feel free to come dressed in your jammies or comfy clothes. Bring a lawn chair, or blanket/pillow and your favorite stuffed animal! Doors to the multi-purpose room will open at 5:30pm and the movie will begin as close to 6:00pm as possible. Popcorn will be served! *This is NOT a drop-off event. All students must have an adult present. Students are also not allowed to wander around the building, and must stay in the multi-purpose room or on the playground with a caregiver present. Other grades will have an opportunity for movie nights as well: 4th & 5th: Stay tuned for the rescheduled date May 17: TK-1st YEARBOOK PHOTOS NEEDED BY 3/15
We are in need of photos to complete the yearbook. Please submit only photos that fit into one of these categories. Photos should be of Newcastle students ONLY and be at least 750KB. Please check the size of the photos before you send them, as anything smaller than 750KB will not be included in the yearbook because the resolution is too low. If you have any photos taken at school (in the classroom, at lunch or at Library, etc.) those would also be greatly appreciated! You can submit up to 5 photos per student. Send all pictures to Nita Kelly at nitakelly117@gmail.com.
Newcastle Yearbook Categories: Fletcher Farm Pumpkin Patch, Halloween, Outdoor Adventures, Pets, Newcastle Siblings (all siblings should be at Newcastle), Multicultural Night (Upcoming on March 27th - Send photos immediately), Spirit Days, Movie Nights School on March 15th
March 15, 2024, which was previously noted on the school-year calendar as a potential inclement weather make-up day, will be a school day to make up for the day the district canceled school due to poor road conditions on January 17. The new 2023-24 school-year calendar is available on the district website. If school is canceled again during the school year due to inclement weather or other unforeseen changes, additional school days will be added to the school calendar in June. Baseball Night Fundraiser! Grab your family, friends, or neighbors and spend a night watching the Seattle Mariners take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, April 27, 6:40pm at T-Mobile Park. Tickets are $25 (normally these seats start at $50!) and a portion of ticket sales goes directly back to the Newcastle Elementary PTSA. Your actual tickets will be emailed to you as the event nears. Purchase tickets HERE by March 20th, while supplies last! Golden Acorn Award Nominations Due March 15th! Each year, our PTSA awards the Golden Acorn to individuals who have given outstanding volunteer service to the children and youth in our school and community. The Golden Acorn is special and given for continued and dedicated service. This is an excellent way to honor our volunteers that have gone “above and beyond!" Award winners receive the Golden Acorn Award Pin and a special certificate from the Washington State PTA. The PTSA also contributes in the winners’ name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarships to selected high school students entering post-secondary education. Lastly, we will celebrate the Golden Acorn winners with the PTSA Board and previous recipients in April. For more information, please click HERE. Please complete the form HERE, using as much detail as possible, to nominate someone who is making a difference in our children’s lives. The Golden Acorn Committee will make the final selections. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the committee chair, Mary Vickers, at mary.joanna@gmail.com. The committee consists of last year's recipients, Mary Vickers and Ellie Diaz. THE NOMINATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MARCH 15TH, 2024. Nominations are confidential, but we ask that you provide your contact information in case we have a question.
Join the PTSA Executive Board for the 2024-2025 School Year
Would you like to help set the direction for the PTSA? Want to be more “in the know” about what happens at school? Interested in meeting new people? All while working in service of our students? Then please consider joining our PTSA Executive Board. We’re made up of parents from all different backgrounds and experiences, just like our community. We have moms, a dad, parents who work full-time and part-time, and parents who don’t work outside the home. There’s a place for everyone. You can learn more about the various roles on the Board and the time commitment (typically less than 3-5 hours per month) HERE. If you’re interested in learning more or have someone you think would be great on the board, please contact Dana Kinghorn (part of our Nominating Committee) at dkinghorn80@gmail.com.
