Kason Yu, 2nd grader in Mrs. Johnson’s class, was chosen as an Issaquah Council District Finalist and will be advancing to the State Level in the National PTA Reflections Art Contest. Way to go Kason!

We’re so excited to bring LionArt to our students and families at home. Check your take-home packet from the materials pick up this week to find 3 unique lessons on Optical Art (aka Op Art). Each project requires minimal materials, but if you need help with materials at home, please contact newcastleptsa@gmail.com.

Introducing our 2021 Nominating Committee

Congratulations and thank you to Hilary Doherty, Ellen Lubbers, and Rebecca Nguyen as they were voted in as our PTSA Nominating Committee at our meeting on Jan. 27. They will be charged with identifying candidates to help us fill open positions on our PTSA Executive Board for the 2021/2022 school year. In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing more information regarding open positions. If you have questions in the meantime, please contact newcastleptsa@gmail.com.

Introduce Your Kids to Influential Figures in American History

February 1st marks the beginning of Black History Month and a wonderful opportunity to introduce your child to the many ways in which Black Americans have shaped our world, from science to activism to the arts and everywhere in between. Find Black history biographies perfect for elementary aged kids HERE and enjoy videos and stories about the significant contributions of Black Americans throughout US and world history HERE.

Enjoy the Children Make Terrible Pets Story Walk Through Feb. 10

he PTSA is proud to bring award-winning author/illustrator Peter Brown for a virtual visit with all students on Monday, March 1! If you’d like to Tbecome familiar with his books, there will be two Story Walks on the Newcastle school campus before his virtual visit. The first book featured is called Children Make Terrible Pets. This Story Walk will be available now through February 10th. We will change to book to The Curious Garden before Mid-Winter Break.

ParentWiser Presents The Upstanders Viewing Feb. 8-10

The Upstanders is an IndieFlix documentary film about resilience and the power of connection to end bullying. Watch the film from home during the 48-hr viewing window, then join Tori McBride, Behavioral Health Supervisor at Swedish Medical Center, and guests to ask questions and learn what tools and resources are available in our area.  

Film viewing period: February 8th starting at 7pm - February 10th at 7pm
