Random Acts of Kindness Challenge EXTENDED to March 12 Couldn’t we all use a little more kindness right now? Our challenge continues with a goal of getting every Newcastle Lion to commit at least one Random Act of Kindness before March 12. Write a note to a teacher, pick up trash on a trail, bring in the neighbor’s garbage bin, clean your room without being asked – the sky is the limit! Find other great ideas HERE. And EVERY student who participates will be entered to win fun prizes! To submit, send a photo of your student’s kindness act (with name and grade) to Jessiej0608@gmail.com to be included in the yearbook. If you’re unable to submit a photo, you can send an email to newcastleptsa.outreach@gmail.com detailing the Act of Kindness. Submit by March 12 by 11:59pm. Join the PTSA Executive Board for the 2021-2022 School Year Would you like to help set the direction for the PTSA? Want to be more “in the know” about what happens at school? Interested in meeting new people? All while working in service of our students? Then please consider joining our PTSA Executive Board. We’re made up of parents from all different backgrounds and experiences, just like our community. We have moms, a dad, parents who work full-time and part-time, and parents who don’t work outside the home. There’s a place for everyone. You can learn more about the various roles on the Board and the time commitment (typically less than 3-5 hours per month) HERE. If you’re interested in learning more or have someone you think would be great on the board, please contact Hilary Doherty (part of our Nominating Committee) at hilaryjldoherty@gmail.com. Nominations Open for the PTSA Golden Acorn Award Each year our PTSA awards the Golden Acorn to individuals who have given outstanding volunteer service to the children in our school and community. This is an excellent way to honor our volunteers who have gone “above and beyond”! If you have someone you believe deserves recognition for their service, please complete the nomination form HERE. Nominations are due by Friday, April 2. Virtual Paint Lesson Update WOW! Our Newcastle Lions love art! The response to the Paint Lesson has been overwhelming so we know many families were not able to register. Rest assured that we are in process of either adding more spots to March 18 (if we can get the supplies in time) or scheduling another class. More info will come, but if you’d like to be placed on the waiting list, contact Bisa Meek at bisameek@gmail.com.
REUNITING THE PRIDE LANDS AUCTION NEWS Introducing the ART FOR ALL Auction Art Project Commemorate a year like no other with this school-wide art project. On Tuesday, March 2nd at Materials Pick-up, every child will receive a special auction art kit. Have your child create a tile and return it as indicated in your package to help make this grade-level art piece truly magical. We also have a unique opportunity to showcase our families in this special project. Purchase a Family Art Tile and complete a fun family art activity while helping to fund LionArt for the future. Family Art Sponsors will receive a YouTube video link with ideas to make this a fun project plus an 8x10 print of the completed piece for their grade level! Let MOD Pizza Take Care of Dinner Every Wednesday in March Take a break from the kitchen and earn money for the PTSA! Every Wednesday this month, MOD Pizza at Newcastle Commons will share the proceeds from your order with Newcastle Elementary School. Dine-in or take out and make sure to tell them you came to support the school! Make it a Very Special Yearbook for Your 5th Grader Time is running out to purchase a personalized half-page for your 5th Grader in the yearbook. There are only a few spots left so PURCHASE yours today.
SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY NEWS Save the Date for Issaquah Schools Foundation Nourish Every Mind Thursday, April 29, at 7pm Our annual Nourish Every Mind event will be virtual again this year…and moved to the evening. The online event will be on April 29 at 7pm, along with an online auction April 16-26.
