CONGRATULATIONS PTSA Membership Contest Winners! Congratulations to the 2nd graders! With the most PTSA members of any grade, they’ll enjoy a “Choose Your Own” Spirit Day on Feb. 26. And congratulations to Mrs. Posten’s, Ms. McCrory’s, and Mrs. Albertini/Pitingoro’s classes! The students will enjoy a special lunch with Dr. Wood as they had the highest number of PTSA members in their classes. Thank you to everyone who has supported the PTSA this year! Spread the Love with Random Acts of Kindness Challenge In celebration of National Random Acts of Kindness Day on Feb. 17, we’re challenging every Newcastle Lion to commit random acts of kindness all month! Submit a photo with your Random Act to Jessiej0608@gmail.com to be included in the yearbook. If you’re unable to submit a photo, you can write an email to newcastleptsa.outreach@gmail.com detailing the Act of Kindness or complete THIS TEMPLATE and email it or drop it off in the folder at the front entrance of school. Every student who submits a Random Act of Kindness will be entered in a drawing to win some fun prizes! To get started, here are some Random Acts of Kindness you can do in or around your own home!
Submissions are due Feb. 28 by 11:59pm. The drawing will take place the week of March 1 and winners will be contacted by email. SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY NEWS Enjoy the Children Make Terrible Pets Story Walk Through Feb. 10 The PTSA is proud to bring award-winning author/illustrator Peter Brown for a virtual visit with all students on Monday, March 1! If you’d like to become familiar with his books, there will be two Story Walks on the Newcastle school campus before his virtual visit. The first book featured is called Children Make Terrible Pets. This Story Walk will be available now through February 10th. We will change to book to The Curious Garden before Mid-Winter Break. ParentWiser Presents The Upstanders Viewing Feb. 8-10 The Upstanders is an IndieFlix documentary film about resilience and the power of connection to end bullying. Watch the film from home during the 48-hr viewing window, then join Tori McBride, Behavioral Health Supervisor at Swedish Medical Center, and guests to ask questions and learn what tools and resources are available in our area. Film viewing period: February 8th starting at 7pm - February 10th at 7pm Register for both links at, www.parentwiser.org/events or directly on Eventbrite ISSAQUAH SCHOOLS FOUNDATION NEWS Impact Scholarships Available to high school juniors and seniors, the Issaquah Schools Foundation offers 2 scholarships, awarded to students who submit essays that describe how ISF-funded programs have enriched their education. The scholarships are offered in two categories: Written ($1000) and Presentation ($1500). More information can be found HERE. Application deadline is Feb. 28. Over $35,000 Awarded in Grants to Teachers and Staff in the ISD School budgets don’t always provide funding for innovative ways to bring learning to life.
