STRAIGHT FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S MOUTH

Did you miss Chat Time with Dr. Wood last week? Here’s a summary of the information shared:

  1. Expectations for Fall: The School Board passed a resolution stating that students would return to a full-time regular schedule with full classrooms this Fall, barring any rulings from the CDC or Public Health. Rules around masking and distancing will be guided by WA Public Health.
  2. RIF (Reductions in Force): Due to declining enrollment, the district has been faced with budget cuts necessitating a reduction in force. For Newcastle, there are currently 10 teachers impacted, though the hope is that most if not all will be reinstated if enrollment increases in the Fall. Right now the expectation is for 4 classrooms in grades K, 2nd, 4th and 5th and 5 classrooms in 1st and 3rd. What can you do? If you know you will not be returning to Newcastle in the Fall, please inform the school ASAP. If you left the school this year but plan to return in the Fall, please register now. Both of these actions will enable a more accurate forecast of enrollment.

Our final Chat Time with Dr. Wood will take place during our final PTSA General Meeting of the year on June 14.
